World Book Fair to be held in Dehradun from August 28 to September 5

In order to revive the receding interest in books in Uttarakhand, the state government has decided to organize a world book fair from August 28 to September 5 at Parade Ground in Dehradun. The book fair will be organized under the guidance of National Book Trust (NBT) with CM Trivendra Rawat and Governor K.K. Paul to inaugurate the ceremony. The theme of the first world book fair will be ‘Padhega Uttarakhand, Badhega Uttarakhand’. More than 200 book publishers will be present at the fair.

We are concerned over the rapidly declining interest among people for books. Their interest now is being diverted in myriad realms, taking them far away from the wealth enshrined within the leaves of the books. However, such a trend is detrimental to their interests as they cannot move further if they are not adequately equipped with knowledge. And there is no better way to acquire knowledge than reading books. The reading habit must be revived at any cost.

– Dhan Singh Rawat, Minister of State, Higher Education

During the 9-day book fair, apart from the usual stalls of myriad books available at discounted price, the government will also organize different events from 11 am to 8 pm daily which will include workshop, discussion, debate, cultural programme, inter school and inter university competition and interaction with noted writers, educationists and social workers. College students who would come along with their IDs would get 20% discount on every purchase.
