Uttarakhand’s Lakshya made headlines by becoming the World NO. 1 Junior Shuttler

The spritely Lakshya Sen hailing from Kumaon’s revered city Almora has made headlines by becoming the World No. 1 Shuttler. His family and loved ones are immensely proud and happy for his feat and the entire Uttarakhand is cheering for him. The Sixteen-year-old Lakshya created history on Thursday when he made the country proud by becoming number one junior single badminton player in the world in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.

This ace shuttler is the first one from Uttarakhand to have a mighty feat at international level. If Lakshya continues like this, then future may hold many great surprises for him. This young lad’s dedication and sportsmen spirit had lead to this major outcome and now Lakshya has become a role model to many young sports persons. This young player from Uttarakhand is considered to be the shining future star of the Indian badminton.

According to BWF rankings, Lakshya bagged 16,903 points in eight tournaments this season, while Chia Hao grabbed the second place with 16,091 points. Uttarakhand State Badminton Association President Ashok Kumar and Vice President Sanjay Gunjyal are overjoyed by Lakshya’s success and have congratulated him for it. For Lakshya the due credits for his achievement goes to his parents, Sports Authority Centre’s (SAI) badminton centre at Almora, Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy and Olympic Quest Committee.

Lakshya’s journey in badminton sport in 2016 has been outstanding as he won the Senior India International Series Badminton Tournament along with All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament in Itanagar. Adding feathers to his cap, he also became the youngest ever player and the first ever player from Uttarakhand to win the title at senior level. Prior to his triumph, his brother Chirag Sen had received the number 2 position in the world junior badminton ranking.
