Uttarakhand’s Dhol-Damau to claim its name in the Guinness Book of World Records

Being a hill state, Uttarakhand has several accolades in its name whether we talk about its diverse culture, traditions, music, art forms and even its instruments that have braced the echoes of the hills, inside their wooden structures. One such unique combo is dhol-damau, the ancient percussion instruments of Uttarakhand that bear an uncanny resemblance to drums. Played in several important functions and religious ceremonies, dhol-damau has maintained its charm since the very beginning and now Uttarakhand government is taking steps to promote it, for which a plan has been chalked out.

According to this plan around 500 to 100 dhol-damaus will be assembled at a place, after which a unique rhythm will be played from it to claim its name in the Guinness Book of World Records. The book will be challenged for playing several instruments at one time in Uttarakhand. To make it happen, the government will provide rigorous training to the former dhol-damau players so they can give a soul stirring performance.
