Uttarakhand tourism boost: UTC hire 210 bus drivers, more buses on roads

In a big relief to Uttarakhand public, Uttarakhand Roadways under Uttarakhand Transport Cooperation (UTC) have hired more than 200 additional bus drivers on contractual basis. The appointment letters to these bus drivers have been generated by the Transport Ministry headquarters on Wednesday.  It is worth mentioning that Uttarakhand Roadways have been in loss for the past few years. Recruitment of bus drivers implies hundreds of buses which were not in operation until now, will be able to serve the public and generate revenue for the state. This will be a major boost for Uttarakhand tourism, as more and more tourists will be able to visit Uttarakhand.

We have appointed 210 bus drivers which will mean more than hundred buses which were standing dormant in the depots will be back on roads to serve the people. We hope the losses overseen by Uttarakhand Roadways will reduce significantly. The remaining  176 drivers will be appointed soon.

Remaining drivers to be appointed soon, 725 conductors will also be selected

For the post of 386 bus driver’s post in Uttarakhand Roadways, more than 750 candidates applied for the position put of which 450 were qualified. After the tests, final tally of drivers selected was 210. The transport department will appoint the remaining 176 drivers soon. The employee unions  are delighted with the appointment of new drivers and have expressed gratitude towards Uttarakhand government.  The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) will also start hiring process for bus-conductors.

More drivers, buses needed on Dehradun-Mussoorie route

While the recent hiring of bus drivers have brought relief to the commuters, the government still have to increase the number of buses to Mussoorie which is an important tourist destination for Uttarakhand tourism. With the onset of tourist season, large number of visitors flock to Mussoorie which is a popular travel destination in Uttarakhand. Additional 20 buses are required to meet the growing influx of of tourists as the current fleet of 18 buses is not sufficient.
