Govt. seek Centre help for George Everest Museum, Mussoorie-Dehardun Ropeway

Uttarakhand government have sought the assistance of Centre to improve the tourism potential in the state. Uttarakhand tourism minister Satpal Maharaj met Union Minister of Tourism Mahesh Sharma on Tuesday to discuss various tourism related projects that required financial assistance. Satpal Maharaj provided the Centre with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) regarding several projects and sought aid of around Rs. 1,000 crore. Union Minister assured Maharaj that Centre will work in conjunction with Uttarakhand government to improve tourism in the state.

The government is planning to create a George Everest Museum in Dehradun to commemorate the eminent surveyor and his contribution to the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India back in colonial era. Apart from that, proper oxygen facilities and stairway to Patal Bhuvaneshwar cave temple in Pithoragarh is also on the agenda. The government is also focusing on the various ropeway projects in Uttarakhand such as Dehradun-Mussoorie (via Hathipaon), Surkanda Devi ropeway, Yamunotri ropeway, Dayara Bugyal ropeway as well as funicular (cliff railway) at Hemkund Sahib (from Govindghat to Ghangaria).

The central government have made it clear that only those projects should be sent for approval which can be completed in a year.
