Uttarakhand gets first war memorial hostel for soldiers, martyrs’ children

Uttarakhand have been bestowed with first War Memorial Girls and Boys hostel (WMGBH) in Dehradun. Situated on Sahastradhara Road, The Garhwal Rifles War Memorial hostel will provide education to children of veterans, soldiers and martyrs of the Indian Army. Constructed with the amount of 10.27 crore, the hostel has accommodation for 25o students in total including accommodation for 125 students of class 5 to 12. The estimated fee of the hostel is expected to be around Rs. 88,000 to 95,400. The preference will be given to children whose parents are serving in the Garhwali Rifles. The seats are reserved for wards of Martyrs, Veer Naris, serving soldiers and ex- servicemen who are domiciled resident of Uttarakhand.

Chief of Army Staff Gen. Vipin Rawat along with Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Rawat were present for the inauguration of the hostel. The Indian Army is also planning to set up war memorial hostel in Haldwani as well as others states of the country. Some of the facilities at the hostel include boarding and lodging arrangements, nutritious food, 24 hour security, dispensary in the premises, entertainment facilities, indoor and outdoor sports, library, audio-visual rooms, personality development classes, career counseling etc.
