Uttarakhand cricket ace Rishabh Pant selected for T20 vs England

A proud moment for Uttarakhand Cricket as Roorkee-resident Rishabh Pant is one of the 15 players selected for 3 T20 matches against England. The U19 wicketkeeper-batsman will share the dressing room with the likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, R Ashwin, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh.  A superb batting display in the ongoing 2016-2017 Ranji season was the key factor that led to his selection.  The T20Is will take place in Kanpur (January 26), Nagpur (January 29) and Bangalore (February 1).

Scintillating batting display in Ranji season caught selectors’ eye

Rishabh Pant first made his mark known in early 2016 when he scored quick 111 runs against Namibia in Under-19s junior World Cup in Bangladesh. Later, he fetched a staggering 1.9 crore when IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils picked him up. But it was his batting display in Ranji season that caught selectors’ eye when he scored fastest hundred by an Indian batsman in first-class cricket – in just 48 balls. He also scored mammoth 308 runs against Maharashtra.

Parents hopeful son will bring Uttarakhand Cricket in limelight

Hailing from Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand, Rishabh’s father Rajendera Pant was ecstatic when he heard the good news. He reminisced when his son promised him that he will play for India one day. “I’m confident Rishabh will follow the footsteps of fellow Uttarakhand MS Dhoni and make his mark in Indian as well as Uttarakhand cricket.” – he adds. Chief Minister Harish Rawat also expressed his happiness and congratulated the young cricketer on his selection. ”His selection is a proud moment for all of Uttarakhand.” adds CM.
