Uttarakhand’s newly elected CM Trivendra Singh Rawat to take oath today

The suspense over who will be the next Chief Minister of Uttarakhand finally ended as legislature party meeting of the BJP unanimously elected Trivendra Singh Rawat as their leader who will take ceremonial oath on Saturday. The Chief Minister’s oath ceremony will take place in in Dehradun and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah along with other party members. Bharatiya Janata Party won 57 of the 70 seats during the 2017 assembly elections, earning the right to form government without any external support.

Trivendra Singh Rawat: Life at a glance

Trivendra Singh Rawat was born in 1960 to a Garhwali family in Kherasain (Jaiharikhal) in Pauri district of Uttarakhand. He completed his Post Graduate (M.A) in History from Srinagar Garhwal University in 1983. At the age of 19, Trivendra joined RSS and became a pracharak after the organization’s views and ideology left an lasting impact on his life. In 1985, he was appointed as the pracharak of the Dehradun metropolitan. After spending 14 years in the organization, Trivendra Singh Rawat bid adieu to RSS and joined BJP where he was appointed as organization minister. Thus started the political innings of the newly elected Uttarakhand CM.

In 2002, he was elected MLA from the Doiwala constituency. He was elected for the second time from Doiwala in 2007 and subsequently joined cabinet of the then BJP government where he was given Agriculture Ministry. After being appointed as the BJP as national secretary in 2013, he was made party in-charge in Jharkhand in 2o14 where under his leadership BJP won absolute majority and formed government.

Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed gratitude towards Centre and fellow legislators for bestowing faith in him regarding Uttarakhand leadership. He promised the Uttarakhand public of a transparent and accountable government. Rawat said corruption-free state and alleviating poverty will be his foremost priority. He also added that he will work diligently towards realizing the vision of development PM Modi has set for Uttarakhand.

The oath ceremony will take place at 3PM at Parade Ground in Dehradun.
