Uttarakhand CM felicitates shuttlers Lakshya Sen and Kuhoo Garg

Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat honored ace badminton players Lakshya Sen and Kuhoo Garg for their excellent performance in their respective badminton tournaments. Lakshya Sen, who won the Asia Junior badminton champion by defeating world champion was presented with a cheque of Rs. 5.53 lakh at the felicitation ceremony at CM residence. Kuhoo Garg, who won the Lagos International Badminton Classics, was also presented with a cheque of Rs. 2 lakh.

CM Trivendra Rawat said that these children of Uttarakhand grow in the lap of nature and are therefore strong physically and mentally. They also have the spirit to excel in whichever field they choose. The recent success of Lakshya Sen and Kuhoo Garg is a victory of our youth who are showing promise in very sports. Lakshya Sen, who is in Russia, said that his efforts would be directed towards bringing glory to the country and the state.

On Sunday, Lakshya created history when he became only the third Indian to win Asia Junior badminton  championship after late Gautam Thakkar (1965) and Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu (2012). He defeated the reigning world junior champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in straight sets in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The wonder boy from Uttarakhand also managed to win a set of three against the badminton legend Lin Dan (21-15, 15-21, 12-21) during New Zealand Open in May.
