Uttarakhand HC takes a bold decision: No Salaries for Schools with No Facilities

The lack of basic facilities at the government schools of Uttarakhand has raised the eyebrows of Nainital High Court which has taken a bold decision in this regard. The High Court has given strict orders that if Education Department and the Government Schools will not be able to able to offer basic facilities then the salaries starting from the Chief Educational Secretary to the Principal will be held back.

The court has given nine months of time to the educational bodies to fulfill all the essential points mentioned in its guideline. The Court has also asked that the Government schools and its various Departments to publish a report of its progress in every three months.

In the coming 6 months the Government Schools will have to provide all these facilities

  • All the schools will have to provide proper school furniture for the students,
  • Each class will have a blackboard in it,
  • All the schools will have proper sanitation facility like separate washrooms for boys-girls,
  • Each school will provide clean drinking water to the students.

Nine months time has been given to the schools to install these facilities

  • Each school will have a lab and library,
  • All the schools will provide free school dress to the students,
  • Mid-day meal facility will be provided to students till middle school,
  • Every school will have heater in winters and fans in summers,
  • To meet the requirements of teachers, new staff will be appointed in the schools
  • Disrupted school buildings will be renovated and well-ventilated rooms will be made,
  • Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the Islamic institutions will receive a help of Rs 20,000 each year
  • The Right to Education under RTI’s 2009 Act will be strictly followed.
