Submit percentage-wise compliance report on Ganga: NGT to Uttarakhand

National Green Tribunal (NGT) have ordered Uttarakhand government to submit a percentage-wise compliance report on the steps taken to clean the Ganga stretch from Gangotri to Haridwar. The government would have to submit the report within 4 weeks. A bench headed by the NGT chairpersonĀ Justice Jawad Rahim asked the government to provide categorical statement rather than saying the work is under progress. After the green court order, the government have to submit the compliance report by July 19.

NGT had earlier criticized the National Mission of Clean Ganga (NMCG) for not filing compliance report on what steps were taken by the Centre, UP and Uttarakhand government regarding measures taken to clean the Ganga in the stretch between Gaumukh and Unnao. The tribunal has also made it clear than while the government has spent more than Rs. 7,000 crore in two years to clean Ganga which still remains an serious environmental concern.
