By next year, seaplane services will be operational once the nod is given by Union Minister of Road and Transport Nitin Gadkari. Apart from attracting tourists, seaplane services will also be of great help during emergency situations.

A seaplane is an amphibious aircraft that can land and take off from water as well as land. These planes can land land on the  lakes with only one feet water, which is quite remarkable. They may operate on a charter basis, provide scheduled service, or be operated by residents of the area for private, personal use. Uttarakhand CM believes Tehri lake reservoir, Naini lake and some rivers in the state are ideal for seaplane services.

Tehri Lake has been projected as the next adventure sports destination in Uttarakhand and is already gaining popularity among tourists. The 42 sqkm area of Tehri Lake is adequate to host number of water activities such as jet skiing, power boating, banana rides, surfing etc. Apart from that, paragliding and hot air balloon rides are also offered at Tehri Lake.
