Saubhagya scheme to launch statewide in Uttarakhand on March 9

Government of India’s newly introduced SAUBHAGYA scheme – which aims to ensure electrification to all the willing households in rural as well as urban areas – will be officially launched in Uttarakhand on March 9. The launch event of the aforementioned scheme will be held in Dehradun and will be presided by Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Rawat and R.K. Singh, Union Minister of State, (Independent Charge) for Power and Renewable Energy. Awareness and publicity about this electrification scheme is also being carried out in the state.


At present, it has been found that around 3,52,000 houses in Uttarakhand are without power connection, with electrification of all by December 2018 is the target set by the respective department. Under this scheme, free power connections will be provided to the BPL families. The beneficiaries for free electricity connections would be identified using Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data. For households not covered under SECC data, Rs. 500 will be charged which will be recovered by DISCOMs in 10 installments.

In addition to that, for remote and inaccessible regions solar packs of 200-300 Wp would be provided which comprises of 5 LED lights, one DC fan, one DC power plug. It also includes the Repair and Maintenance (R&M) for 5 years.
