Sajjan Jindal’s JSW Group and other corporates to rebuild Kedarpuri

Government of Uttarakhand has signed agreement with top corporations including JSW Group which would carry out the reconstruction works at Kedarpuri – the suburbs surrounding the Kedarnath shrine. Under the Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR), the corporations take initiatives as well as responsibility for the company’s effects on environmental and social well being. The state cabinet chalked out 16-point guidelines for the reconstruction of Kedarpuri in the cabinet meeting.

The state government has decided to sign an agreement with top business houses, including Sajjan Jindal-owned JSW group – a steel, power and infrastructure conglomerate–under the guidelines that were ratified by the state cabinet late on Wednesday.

The restoration works of the pilgrimage city Kedarpuri including the design and architecture will be monitored by a high-level committee headed by state chief secretary. The blueprint of the proposed city will include houses for priests, bank branch and host of other infrastructures. The appointment of nodal officer for implementing the reconstruction plans as well as creation of separate divisions of PWD and irrigation department for Kedarnath was also finalized.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed soon between the Uttarakhand government and the JSW group.

Other important decisions taken by the state cabinet include reconstruction of bridge, ropeway tunnels, and upgrading municipal boards of Rishikesh and Kotdwar into municipal corporations. Further, amendments in Uttarakhand Flood Plain Zoning Act, 2012 will allow e-auctioning and e-tending of leases for riverbed material and mining activities.
