A recent study conducted by Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology found out that there has been 40% reduction in the water discharge of these natural springs located in the hilly state.

The decision was handed out by the bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar while disposing a plea filed by Uttarakhand resident Pratibha Naithani seeking direction for the preservation of the natural springs.  The green court directed Uttarakhand government to look into the plea and ensure protection for these fast-depleting hot springs in the state.
