Namami Gange: Sewage Treatment Plants to be set up in Haridwar & Varanasi

The ambitious Namami Gange Project which integrates to clean and protect the Ganga River in an effective manner has taken a step further this year. The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved many purposeful projects this year including the two sewage treatment plants (STP) in Haridwar and Varanasi.

To make the river clean and pristine, the NMCG will deploy trash skimmers for cleaning the Ganga surface in six more cities namely Rishikesh and Haridwar in Uttarakhand, Garhmukhteshwar in Uttar Pradesh, Sahibganj in Jharkhand, Kolkata and Nabadwip in West Bengal.

An official statement that was released today stated that NMCG has given a green flag to two separate STPs of 68 MLD and 14 MLD capacities in Haridwar’s Jagjeetpur and Sarai respectively, at an estimated cost of Rs 135.30 crore under hybrid annuity based PPP model.
