Mussoorie to spend Rs 161 crore to combat water shortage in the hills

Mussoorie will have the abundant supply of water in the coming few years as the hill queen has taken up an ambitious Rs 161.74 crore project. The budget has been used from the Central Government’s SPA project to supply water from Yamuna river to Mussoorie. The paperwork for supplying water to Mussoorie was being done from a long time. The former government had launched a budget for preparing a DPR. By using the pumping method, Yamuna river’s water will be supplied to Mussoorie hills. 8 MLD water will be made available from this scheme which will fulfil the demand of Mussoorie. Under this project, a 17 mm long rising line will be spread and in the second stage, a distribution network will be built.

Water in Mussoorie is not being supplied according to the set standards

The people of Mussoorie are getting less water than the set standards. Opposite to 135 LPD which is the set standard, Mussoorie is only receiving 78 LPD water. Therefore, the new scheme will be developed according to 135 LPD. Currently, the water demand in Mussoorie is only 15 LMD. However only 7.7 MLD water is available and the rest 8 MLD water shortage will be met by the new scheme. It is said that the Water Corporation’s Mussoorie division was sitting idle for quite a long time and after the opening of this division only the sewer line and STP work has been completed under the JNNURM scheme. After this scheme, the department is receiving their salary without doing any sort of work. Rather assigning new work to this division, the Water Department Management is opening a new division for the World Bank Project.
