‘Mushroom Lady’ Divya Rawat honoured with Nari Shakti Samman Award by President

Divya Rawat, the catalyst behind mushroom farming in Uttarakhand was felicitated with the ‘Nari Shakti Samman’ award by President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday. With a motive to empower other women, Divya handed a CD containing invaluable information about mushroom farming to the Women Empowerment Ministry of Central Government.

Having a professional degree in MBA, Divya Rawat left several lucrative job offers in the private sector to become self-employed and to give employment to others. Initially, she started mushroom farming in a tiny house at Mothrowala and was only experimenting with it. But when she got unexpected results, she planned to take mushroom farming to a new level. She then went to Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri and other districts to teach the hill folk about the possibilities in mushroom farming and also started mushroom farming there.

Divya imparted her knowledge and experience with the village women and also gave them employment. Taking note of her inspiring work and her role in uplifting the women of hilly areas, Divya was honoured with ‘Nari Shakti Ekta’ award at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on International Women’s Day. Happy with her success and accolades bestowed by the Government of India, Divya said that this award is for the state and making the youth of Uttarakhand self-reliant is my motto now.
