Kumaon’s first Hill Patrol Unit (HPU) deployed in Almora

With an aim to bring swift police service to any criminal incidents in the Uttarakhand hills, first Hill Patrol Unit (HPU) of Kumaon region was flagged off on Sunday. Minister of State, Women Empowerment and Child Development, Rekha Arya was invited as the chief guest at the event and flagged off 25 two-wheeler HPU vehicles at Police Line Ground. Addressing the event, Rekha Arya said that the Hill Patrol Unit will be instrumental in not only offering quick assistance in disaster-relief work but also keep a check on crimes against women.

The patrol unit has been made available in collaboration of Hero Moto Corp and Azim Team Media Expert. Ten scooters and 15 motor bikes are included in the HPU, which will help police personnel reach the crime scene at earliest. Its aim is to provide prompt police assistance while maintaining the law system. This team will prove to be effective in preventing women crimes. Addressing the program, SSP P Renuka Devi also said that the work of providing 100% service to the people on behalf of the unit will be done.
