Uttarakhand rain: Kedarnath highway closed due to landslides

Following the heavy rains in Uttarakhand, the Kedarnath highway was closed on Sunday in several areas due to landslides and mud flows. Munkatiya, Banswara and Rampur were some of the areas which were severely affected. While the restoration work in underway, the Meteorological (MeT) department has predicted heavy rains in most parts of the state for the next 2-3 days and asked pilgrims visiting Char Dham to remain alert.

Uttarakhand received heavy to very heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours which led to number of road blocks in Uttarakashi district. The Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway is blocked at Therang, Laldhang and Nalupani whereas the Delhi-Yamunotri highway is blocked at Kadikhal, Silesu and Lakhwad bend. The Yamunotri highway has been blocked at Dabarkot. However, yatra to Gangotri and Yamunotri continues via alternative routes.

On Saturday, Pantnagar recorded 77 mm of rainfall, Tehri 46 mm and Nahan 45 mm in the state. The Ganga river at Haridwar is flowing  at 292.20 meters which is only 1.80 meters below the danger mark.
