Heavy rain alert in Uttarakhand, avoid driving in hills: MeT officials

A heavy rain alert has been issued in Uttarakhand by the weather office. Following the warning, the disaster management authority have alerted all district magistrates in the hill state with rescue operations if any need arose. According to the meteorological department, Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rain on July 25, 26 and 27. Earlier, the MeT department also issued a heavy rain alert in July 21. The authorities have asked people to be careful while driving in the hills during heavy rain.

Heavy rains in Uttarakhand have caused landslides in the region and have disrupted Char Dham pilgrimage. Badrinath-Rishikesh highway was blocked along with Gangotri National Highway between Therang and Gangnani near Nagdevta last week due to debris falling on the road. In the last few days, Uttarakhand is witnessing heavy rains in the past week. In Malari region, heavy rain followed by cloudburst led to a major part of the hill collapse.
