Heavy rains forecast in Uttarakhand till Saturday, MeT department issues alert

The Regional MeT office issued heavy rain alert on Wednesday in Uttarakhand for the next 72 hours till Saturday. Heavy showers are expected specifically in the Kumaon region of the state. The rain is expected to start on Thursday and go on till the weekend. The sky in Uttarakhand has been outcast since Wednesday in may part of the hill state. As the weather develops into heavy rainfall, more warnings will be issued by MeT department in timely manner.

Rains are likely to occur from Wednesday evening in Rudraprayag, Pauri and Chamoli districts while districts such as Nainital, Almora, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh are expected to have receive heavy rains. Officials with the state government said preventive measures have already been initiated in the districts where rains are likely to occur with high intensity. People living on the banks of rivers have been asked to move to higher places just in case flooding occurs.
