Govt. Schools having student strength less than 10 will be shut down soon

A new law has been passed in the state slating that the government schools having student strength less than 10 will be shut down in Uttarakhand. Education Minister Arvind Pandey has been assigned with the duty of compiling a list of the schools that need to be dissolved. Holding a meeting at his office near the State Legislative Assembly, Pandey gave important directives regarding the issue. He also laid stress on the lesser number of students in schools and will take immediate steps to resolve the matter. As for now those schools having less than 10 students will be merged with the neighbouring schools.

Src: Most schools in Uttarakhand especially those in remote areas have fewer students enrolled in them, the merger will create a healthy and competitive environment for the students to excel and improve their over all performance.

During this meeting, Chief Secretary Dr Ranveer Singh, Upper Secretary Deependra Chaudhary, Director of Education Middle School RK Kunwar, Director of Basic Education Seema Jaunsari, Upper Director Ram Krishna Uniyal, Joint Assistant Director BS Negi etc were present there. According to a survey, there are about 1800 schools in Uttarakhand having fewer student strength. Taking heed of the matter, Education Minister said that we will solve this matter soon for which he will conduct regular meetings with the Teachers Organization.

According to the new guidelines:

•  If any teacher or staff visits Dehradun with their problem then the related BEO will be held responsible.
• Issues related to teachers and staff will be resolved locally, the directorate will take an initiative in this.
• Regular attendance of the Chief, teachers and staff at the offices of education department and schools is a must.
• The proposal for domiciliary model school to be constructed in every block will be brought forward.
