Good news! Govt to appoint state-level licensed tourist guides for tourists

Keeping in mind the tourism development as well as unemployment in the state, the government, for the first time, will appoint state-level tourist guides for tourists visiting Uttarakhand. This initiative will be boon for the unemployed youths in the state who have localized knowledge for the various destinations in the state. Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) have issued guidelines for the appointment of tourist guides. The age criteria for applicants is from 18 to 60 years and only Uttarakhand natives and local residents are allowed.

Four months ago, the government took an initiative for hiring destination guides for five tourist destinations in Kumaon region at Ranikhet, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Munsiyari and Almora. The success of the initiative prompted the government to launch the scheme at state-level. A licence will be issued to the tourist guides which will be valid of 5 years. A 9-week training will be provided to the applicants with additional 2-week workshop after which state-level tourist guides will be selected by a 5-member committee.

  • To provide correct and localized information about various Uttarakhand destinations to Indian as well as foreign tourists
  • To help in the development of tourism in the state with the help of local guides
  • To increase the football of national and international tourists in Uttarakhand
  • To offer employment opportunities to the youth of Uttarakhand
