Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), the Uttarakhand government is planning to create 2,500 artificial ponds and reservoirs in a month to tackle the water shortage issue. Apart from that, more than 1,000 natural lakes will be rejuvenated. A target has been set for respective districts which will be completed under a tight deadline of one-month.

Under the aegis of CM, a water conservation campaign will run from May 25 to June 30 under which Rural Development Department will create new reservoirs as well as rejuvenate the dried up natural reservoirs all over Uttarakhand. The department will submit weekly report to the government. The government have also sought data on the natural reservoirs in the state so they can be monitored properly.
