Dehradun Traffic Police to take steps to decongest city traffic, remove illegal hawkers

In order to relieve the Dehradun city of frequent traffic jams and congestion, Dehradun Traffic Police have shared their suggestion pertaining to traffic management with Municipal Corporation. These guidelines and suggestions will be implemented once cleared by the Municipal Corporation. A proper presentation pertaining to traffic guidelines was carried out by Superintendent of Police, Traffic in front to Municipal Commissioner.

According to the proposed traffic plan, the Municipal Corporation will create two separate zones for hawkers and vendor where they can put up their stalls. In a survey, around 2700 hawkers have been marked and identified which will be allotted space in the zone.

5 Key Points of the Proposed Traffic Plan

  1. Two zones to be created by Dehradun Traffic Police to manage hawkers and vendors. No vendors will be allowed to enter in the prohibited zone.
  2. Green Zone include 12 places in Dehradun where hawkers will be allowed to put up their stalls. These places include Dehradun Club, ISBT-Mandi Chowk, Chakrata Road, near Crossroads mall, Kanak Chowk, Tibet Market Road, Doon Chowk, Bindal Pul, Nehru Colony etc.
  3. Zero Zone would include 18 places in Dehradun where hawkers and vendors will be strictly prohibited. These places include Survey Chowk, Ghanta Ghar, Lansdowne, Paltan Bazaar, Tehsil Chowk, Lal Pul, Labour Chowk etc.
  4. All vendors will remain at their place and will not move from one place to another. The stalls will be color coded to help in identification.
  5. The hawkers will reach their allotted space in the zone before 8 AM. All vendors and hawkers will be moved away from the main roads.
