State Government declares Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh as Metropolitan Cities

The State Government has declared the three most populated regions of Uttarakhand namely Dehradun, Haridwar and Tehri district’s partial areas as ‘Dehradun-Haridwar metropolitan city. This region boasts a total population of around 15 lakh and will be soon blessed with a metropolitan committee that will introduce and implement new developmental schemes in the area. The National Capital Region Board has already selected Dehradun and after receiving the stature of metropolitan city, the Central Government will lend financial support to it.

Development will follow at a fast pace in the Metropolitan cities

After bagging the title of metropolitan cities Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh’s development will follow at NCR’s lines. Dehradun has already been selected by the National Capital Region Board and after becoming a metropolitan city, the development schemes will be launched on a wider scale. This decision has been taken by the National Capital Region Board to distribute the load from the national capital Delhi, for which the big cities of the state are being chosen. The state has been asked to make a development model for the cities for which the budget will soon be granted.

A notification has been issued by the state in which Dehradun has been declared as a metropolitan city. Now the NCR board will grant loans to the city at a low rate of interest along with this many new schemes will also be introduced. Until now, the state used to grant loans at 8% interest for residential schemes. But now the NCR board will grant loan at 7% rate of interest for metro, PRTS, sewerage, drinking water and other residential schemes.

Industrial areas will also witness a rapid growth

The industrial areas of Haridwar, Dehradun and Selaquai were already in the favour of making Dehradun a metropolitan city. The metro rail will be a milestone for the industrial growth as it will connect cities like Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Vikasnagar. This will not only provide easy conveyance to the commuters residing in Haridwar, Sidcul, Mohabewala, Selaqui but the whole area will also prosper as a city.

After becoming a metropolitan city Tourism will follow here

When the dream of the metropolitan cities will come into surface, the tourism sector will prosper by leaps and bounds. The religious tourist attractions of Haridwar, Rishikesh and Rajaji National Park will be linked by jungle safaris. With this, better tourist facilities will be provided at Mussoorie and Kalsi so the tourists can savour the natural beauty in its utmost grace. The historical and other important places in Doon will also be open for the tourists so they can bask in the glory of Garhwal. The temporary tourist places near Dehradun will be developed as permanent tourist places and the Asan barrage area near Vikasnagar will be developed for water sports, offering employment opportunities to many. To lure more and more tourists, the tourist department and GMVN will also introduce custom tailored tourist packages.
