Champawat DM directs officials to ride cycle to work, every Saturday is no-car day

The government officials at Champawat district of Uttarakhand will be riding bicycles to work, the district magistrate have issued order. The new orders by district magistrate is likely to take effect from January 1, 2018. The DM also directed every department to allocate funds for the purchase of bicycles. The step was taken to reduce the frivolous spending on the government vehicles as well as control the pollution in the district. Apart from that, every Saturday will be a no-car day.

In the meeting of Road Safety Committee, people suggested the use of bicycles for work. Acting on this suggestion, every department have been directed to use bicycles for work. Every Saturday will be a no-car day.

The officials at Champawat district used government vehicles from commuting from place of residence to Collectorate office and Vikas Bhawan which resulted in frivolous expenditure of several lakhs. For keeping the spendings in check, DM ordered very officials to ride bicycle to work. Arrangements for carpooling ill also be mad for officials.
