50 roads blocked in Uttarakhand due to landslides, heavy rains

Due to the heavy rains in the past few days, several rural roads in Uttarakhand have been blocked all over the state, whereas Badrinath-Rishikesh highway that was closed on Friday amidst heavy rains was opened for smaller vehicles. The roads to Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Rudraprayag were opened for public. If reports from Department of Disaster Management are to be believed, Chamoli witnessed heavy rain and cloudburst and around 15 village roads were stilled blocked. The affected families in Kundi and Ghat villages were staying at relief camps.

In Uttarakashi, after the pedestrian bridge at Yamunotri collapsed, the pilgrims moved using another bridge. In Rudraprayag district, five rural roads were blocked while in Dehradun (Chakrata) in four, Tehri two, Pauri six, Bageshwar four, Pithoragrah eight, and Almora two roads were blocked. In addition to that, a batch of pilgrims returning from Kailash Mansarovar Yatra were still stuck at Gunji as the helicopter could not take off due to heavy weather.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) has predicted has a wet spell for a week. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected on Monday in Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Haridwar, Bageshwar and Pauri.
