30 villages nestled near Tehri Dam to be relocated soon

About 30 villages housing 415 families near Tehri Dam will be soon relocated in Dehradun. The expert committee formed by the government told that it is unsafe for the families to thrive near the Tehri Dam. Therefore, 17 villages located near the Tehri Dam will be soon monitored and the committee will present a report on it. The expert committee said that the dam is not responsible for the harm caused to the 27 villages located near the dam area and linked the recent incidences to heavy downpour.

On Monday, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal addressed a meeting at the Assembly Hall in which he discussed about the relocation of the villages affected by the Tehri Lake. In a phone call with Chief Secretary S Ramaswami, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal requested him to pardon the lease rent of the 82 crore land at Pashulok Bhaniwala for relocating 415 families there. The villages that are most affected by the construction of Tehri dam include Uthad, Barkot, Cholgaon, Madan Negi, Chanthi, Notad, Barola, Payalgaon, Siroli, Bhilangana Nala etc. The TSDC officials told that the report of the remaining 17 villages will be presented at a meeting held on April 17.
