2017 Trek of the Year: 200 trekkers flagged off for inaugural Dronagiri trek

More than 200 trekkers to inaugural Dronagiri trek were flagged off ceremoniously on the first day from Joshimath of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Dronagiri was named ‘2017 Trek of the Year’ by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department recently and efforts were made to promote the trek amidst the avid trekkers. As apart of the promotion, adventure sport companies will be allowed to take trek batches all year around to explore the region.

The inaugural Dronagiri trek ceremony was held at Gandhi Ground at Joshimath with Badrinath MLA Mahendra Bhatt and Kedarnath MLA Manoj Rawat as presiding chief guests. The traditional Pauna dance was also performed by the Bhotia community in their traditional attire to welcome the trekkers.

Dronagiri village is situated at a height of 3,800 meters overlooking the majestic Dronagiri peak which has been mentioned in the Indian epic Ramayana. It is believed that Dronagiri is the peak from where Lord Hanuman gathering life-saving Sanjeevani herb to cure the ailing Laxman. Enroute to Dronagiri, trekkers will come across wonders of nature such as Bagni Bugyal, Nandi Kund, Himalayi Yak and Tibetan Khark. The increase in tourism activity in the region will ensure employment opportunities for the youth in the region.
