With the increase of pilgrims and devotees Char Dham pilgrimage season in Uttarakhand, the trouble of locals in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand have also increased as the GMOU buses plying on the usual route will be diverted to the Char Dham route to accommodate the growing influx of pilgrims. This will, in turn, leave the daily commuters with less buses on their respective routes. While shared taxis ply on most of the routes, some of the places in Garhwal region entirely depend on GMOU bus services.
Garhwal Motor Owners Union (GMOU) buses is considered as the lifeline for locals in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. With less than 20 % buses on the routes other than Char Dham, the locals are likely to suffer. The GMOU officials have made it clear that they will be operating more buses on the Char Dham route. While GMOU have made their intentions clear, it remains to be seen what steps Uttarakhand government will take to ensure the local commuter do not suffer during the Char Dham season.
